Built in 1872, it contains the tomb of Sidi Omar Ben Salem Ben Amor Ben Saad Ben Meftah Abada Al Ayari.
He is a legendary and renowned, unique figure thanks to the strength in his character and faith, and had for long influenced the life of Kairouan. He was a blacksmith promoted to a venerated holy person respected and feared because of his well-known ‘miracles’. Here is one of his ‘miracles’ that deserve mentioning.
In 1855, this holy person declared that Sebastopol would be taken only if two canons sent to the Bey from Kairouan would arrive to the Muscovite city. These two ‘sacred’ canons should produce a stunning effect and cause the fall of this city.
Once the canons reached Tunis, the Bey sent them without any delay to Constantinople on board a vessel. His supporters across the entire regency and in particular in Tunis were delighted by this anticipated victory.
They even computed the date during which the canons were expected to reach their final destination.
Amazing enough, as soon the canons arrived, Sebastopol was taken. In Tunis, people were waiting impatiently and once they heard the good news, the joy among the faithful of Islam was great.
The museum contains handcrafted items made by Sidi Amor Abada. It also includes several hand-written documents related to his enigmatic life.
The Andalusian architectural style is quite marvellous.
Absolutely to discoverment
